You don’t stop playing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop playing
I got the unique opportunity to speak with an LPGA tour, senior Tournament, and ASEA golf Pro, Nancy Rubin Sharff. Although I never played the game, I've always been fascinated by powerful women who make waves in the fields they chose as their passion or career,
Ever since a little girl, Nancy wanted nothing more than to become a professional athlete – a golf professional. She did achieve that dream but not without challenges.
The Senior LPGA/Legends tour is trying to grow. It’s a fact that the women LPGA Players don’t age as well as the men do in their 50ties and on. A lot is going on in female physiology not to affect the game and professional performance on the optimal level.
Today, at the "Medicare age" herself, Nancy is an advocate for senior female golf tournaments, and for more female support and involvement in that age group.
“Knowing the right people to gain entry and/or bringing a pro-am team to raise money works as well. Our Senior golfers who played well before there was decent prize money to play for (like today’s purses), would like to play more often. However, the available tournaments are few and far between. They even lowered the senior age to 45 from 50 so they could get some of the bigger names in sooner.
Just as I’m a pioneer advocate for Redox, I find myself a pioneer again for Senior women’s golf…” Nancy Sharff
We talked about:
- How she naturally always wanted to play golf
- How she thought after studies that’s it – she was done with learning until she knew better!
- How some words can mess you up – and what her coach in college once said to her (even though she was her #1 player)
- How marrying a nongolfer opened up a new journey to learn about other things life has to offer aside from golf 😊
- How coaching or playing are two very different things
- How losing her husband’s identical twin was a wakeup call for him to start taking care of their own health better
- How meeting with Dr. Silverman and her friend Dorothy started a new journey in her professional career and athletic abilities
- How she never wanted to use any excuse that she can’t do something because of her age
- We even touch on financial rewards for tournaments and how they changed
- How female professional athlete’s body changes when aging compared to men
- How brain mapping tests can show what’s more effective for the game
- How does she visualize the game ahead of the tournament
and so much more!!!
